Our Story - Mindscapes Children's Museum

How It All Began

On October 1st, 2015, Mindscapes Children's Museum opened its doors as Nigeria's and Sub-Saharan Africa's premiere children's museum. From the very beginning, our mission was clear: to provide a specialized space where children could explore, discover, learn, and create.

The vision for Mindscapes emerged from recognizing a gap in Nigeria's educational landscape. While children had access to amusement parks, malls, and entertainment centers, there was no dedicated facility that combined learning with fun in a meaningful, interactive way.

We set out to create more than just a museum—we wanted to build a community resource that would inspire curiosity, nurture creativity, and make quality educational experiences accessible to all children, regardless of their background.

Museum Opens

October 1st, 2015 - Mindscapes Children's Museum officially opens as Nigeria's first children's museum, welcoming families to explore interactive exhibits.

2016

Expanding Programs

Launched field trip programs for schools and the Access Program to serve underserved communities.

Naturescape Garden Opens

Added our beautiful outdoor learning space, expanding opportunities for environmental education and outdoor play.

Why Are We Called a "Museum"?

Many wonder why children's museums are called "museums" when they don't display traditional collections behind glass cases.

Historically, children's museums did start out as collection-based institutions. However, the concept evolved based on a crucial insight: children learn best through hands-on interaction, not passive observation.

Today, children's museums focus on interactive, hands-on learning experiences. The name "museum" reflects our commitment to education, curation of learning experiences, and preservation of the wonder and curiosity that drives children's natural desire to learn.

At Mindscapes, every exhibit is carefully curated to provide educational value, just as traditional museums curate artifacts—but our "artifacts" are interactive experiences that children can touch, manipulate, and learn from directly.
